TODAY is NED FRITZ DAY! Officially decreed in 1983. Details here. None of Ned’s achievements would have been possible without his wife GENIE FRITZ, one of Dallas’s first social justice warriors. A pioneer in interracial outreach and the rights of minorities to buy homes where they wanted. Activist for low-income housing and founder of the Greater Dallas Housing Opportunity. A force for women’s right to have credit and integral to the formation of Women’s Southwest Federal Credit Union. A legend in the League of Women’s Voters locally, in the state, and nationwide.
Genie typed every single book, article, position paper, and letter of Ned’s—there were thousands! Co-founded with him two crucial eco-groups: Texas Conservation Alliance and Texas Land Conservancy. In 1970, when Ned went full-time with environmental activism, she stepped away from her social issues to support his efforts.
We are fulfilling Genie’s dream by honoring Ned’s achievements with a biographical tribute website: Ned Fritz Legacy Project. Her achievements are a big part of it. We are working as fast as we can to get it online ASAP, so add a little fuel to our fire. Please give what you can at GoFundMe. Or if you’d like to give by check (preferred), visit the Legacy’s donations page where credit cards are also taken. Thanks to those who’ve donated so far!
