Kristi Kerr Leonard and I had been chatting up the idea since we walked the Ned and Genie Fritz Texas Buckeye Trail last summer with their daughter, Eileen Fritz McKee. It had been over five decades since the late Ned Fritz began his incredible campaign to preserve Texas wild lands and their creatures, ably assisted by Genie. Information on them was becoming increasingly hard to find. The legacy was slipping away.
Once I completed the writing of Wild DFW: Explore the Amazing Nature Around Dallas-Fort Worth for Timber Press in November 2021, we began meeting regularly to discuss what to do. We settled on a website biography, free for anyone to read.
On this Full Moon, we decide it has to be done. Even though we have no clue how to fund it, making it happen is imperative. The Ned Fritz Legacy project is now born.
